Cătălina Mihai - Award for Best Actress at Buzău Theatre Festival
Cătălina Mihai, actress at Constanţa State Theater, was awarded on Saturday, just one day before her 25th birthday, at the “Buzău Loves Theatre” Festival. She won the Best Actress Award for her role as Izzy in "Rabbit Hole" by David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by Radu Iacoban, which was performed in Buzău on June 16.
Immediately after the performance, Cătălina returned to Cluj Napoca where she is rehearsing for a co-production of the State Theater Constanța with the Hungarian State Theater in Cluj Napoca and the National Theater in Ljubljana - Slovenia, directed by Tompa Gabor, so her award was raised by actor Lucian Iftime, also a member of “Rabbit Hole” cast, who conveyed Cătălina’s gratitude to the audience.
“Rabbit Hole” premiered on March 27, 2022. It brings to the fore a child loss family drama, the director thoroughly, empathetically and even humorously investigating the depths of pain and how the characters manage its various phases.
Cătălina Mihai graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree from the I.L. Caragiale University of Theater and Cinematography in Bucharest. In 2020, she won the YOUNG HOPE Award at the GOPO Awards Gala (most important awards in Romanian cinema) while she was nominated for two awards for her title role in the movie HEIDI.
She also had a nomination at UNITER Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, in 2021, for the part of Speed in “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”, directed by Alexandru Mâzgăreanu, which will be performed next week, on June 27th, during the prestigious Sibiu International Theater Festival – FITS 2022.
Cătălina Mihai made her debut on Constanţa theatre stage with the part of Dorine from “Tartuffe” and, in addition to the two productions mentioned above, she plays in the impro-show “Comedy Match” and, with Maia Morgenstern, in “Collected Stories”, performance staged at Godot Theatre and taken by Constanţa State Theatre into its repertoire.
She also performs on Bucharest National Theatre stage with Maia Morgenstern, Marius Manole and other reputable actors in “The Country House”, directed by Claudiu Goga.
