SEAS 2024: Carmen

The Carmen performance, a production by the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet, will take place on August 9, 2024, at 9:00 PM, at the Teatrul de vară Soveja as part of SEAS 2024.

Barcelona Flamenco Ballet (BFB) reimagines the timeless myth of Carmen in their latest project. This new adaptation of Bizet's opera introduces previously unexplored elements of flamenco, transcending the traditional framework in which it has historically been placed and aligning it with the realities of today's contemporary society. By portraying Carmen as a modern, empowered woman and infusing flamenco and ballet with David Gutierrez's distinctive style, the production redefines the universal myth and flamenco for the 21st century.

Despite the passage of time, Carmen's message of freedom and courage in the face of an unequal world remains powerful, reflecting the ongoing struggles of women for their rights. Carmen embodies the archetype of a woman who boldly confronts a hostile and violent male-dominated world. Although she does not survive, her legacy serves as an enduring example for future generations.
