The Glass Menagerie is one of Tennessee Williams’ most staged plays. The famous American playwright won the Pulitzer Prize for “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”.

The performance directed by Diana Mititelu at the Constanța State Theater gives to the audience the opportunity of an emotional encounter with one of the most beautiful drama texts of the 20th century.

It speaks of a world that lives at the border between reality and fantasy, a world full of tenderness emerged from the intensity of the relationships.

Nina Udrescu, Marian Adochiţei, Lana Moscaliuc and Andrei Cantaragiu succeed, under the inspired direction of Diana Mititelu, to carry outstanding filigree theatrical creations in a story about love and hope, giving life to an original, cleverly designed setting, by Titus Ivan.

The autobiographical substance of the text is higher than in any other play by Tennessee Williams. While the real name of the author was Thomas, same as Marian Adochiței’s character, his mother’s name was Amanda, like the mother played by Nina Udrescu, and the author's sister, psychically unstable, was named Rose, which proves to be a kind of nickname for the character Laura, played by Lana Moscaliuc.

Reviews

"I found the textual editing done by the director to be truly remarkable. A significant part of the directorial vision also struck me as interesting, especially the shift in perspective on Laura, who is no longer portrayed as disabled but rather as almost autistic. It's a character to which actress Lana Moscaliuc brings a performance that is not just good but genuinely moving."

"Tom's oscillation between the roles of narrator and character is suggested both scenically and directorially through a sound-marked portal used exclusively by him, the maintenance of a personal space at the edge of the stage, lighting, and the transition of other characters from mobility to immobility. Additionally, the original and ingenious set design (by Titus Ivan), consisting of twisted wire shaped into chairs, tables, a chandelier, a telephone, and more, serves as skeletal representations of objects, expressing their lack of substance—the essence preserved by Tom in his memory."
