SEAS 2024: Fiddler on the Roof

The performance Fiddler on the Roof, a production of the "Csíki Játékszí" Municipal Theatre in Miercurea Ciuc, will take place on September 5, 2024, at 8:00 PM, at Casa de cultură a sindicatelor, as part of SEAS 2024.

The renowned musical Fiddler on the Roof has been staged on Broadway since 1964 and has become a classic that continues to return to stages worldwide. The story is set in the small Ukrainian village of Anatevka at the beginning of the 20th century, during a period of great suffering, and features characters with distinct personalities. The often tragicomic, sometimes moving narrative magnificently portrays a world struggling to balance tradition and modernity, a story that remains relevant to this day.

Marc Chagall, the world-renowned Jewish-Russian painter, created the image of the fiddler, who, balancing on the roofs of a small village, gives voice to the joys, dreams, sufferings, struggles, and adversities of this close-knit community. A fiddler on the roof! Pure madness, right? Yet, it embodies that risky beauty that captivates, revealing the impossible, the unknown, and the absurd: it is, like life itself.
