24-03-2026

The Constanța State Theatre is launching an open call for a playwriting residency dedicated to young creators up to the age of 30, who are invited to submit texts that will serve as the basis for performances aimed at teenagers, to be staged in high schools in Constanța.

The Constanța State Theatre is launching an open call for a playwriting residency dedicated to young creators up to the age of 30, who are invited to submit texts that will serve as the basis for performances aimed at teenagers, to be staged in high schools in Constanța.

Applications are open until April 6, 2026, and must be submitted by completing the online form available here.

Candidates are required to submit a narrative CV, a detailed synopsis of the proposed play (maximum two pages), and a portfolio of dramatic texts, which may include excerpts, scenes, monologues, or full plays written previously, regardless of whether they have been published or staged.

Proposals addressing current and relevant themes for high school students are encouraged, focusing on relationships, tensions, and transformations specific to the educational environment and age, as well as on social contexts that influence the formation of young people’s identity.

The synopsis must provide a clear overview of the plot, conflicts, and proposed aesthetic approach, while also indicating the text’s potential to generate dialogue and reflection among a teenage audience. Authors may imagine fictional worlds with multiple characters, while considering the need for flexible dramaturgical structures adapted to classroom performances and small casts.

Following the selection process, two playwrights will be chosen to participate in a creative residency, during which they will have three to four weeks to develop their plays, designed as performances with an estimated duration of 30–35 minutes.

The texts will be developed in collaboration with directors Edda Coza and Dan Coza and will be staged with actors from the theatre’s ensemble or collaborators of the Constanța State Theatre, as well as students from the Faculty of Arts of Ovidius University.

The two productions will be created במהלך 2026 and will go on tour in high schools across Constanța. The performances will take place in classrooms and will be followed by discussions with students, aimed at encouraging dialogue and reflection on the explored themes.

This open call is part of the Constanța State Theatre’s initiative to bring theatre closer to young audiences and to support the emergence of new voices in Romanian playwriting.

Update: The application deadline for the playwriting residency dedicated to young creators, part of the “Theatre in Schools” project, has been extended until April 17!
