Constanta State Theatre - September Festivals

Constanta State Theatre - September Festivals
18-09-2023

Summer is over, and with it SEAS - Summer Season of Performing Arts. But the Constanta State Theatre continues its journey. This month the winner of the UNITER award for Best Performance, SEASIDE STORIES, directed by Radu Afrim, was invited to two important festivals: the Piatra Neamt Theatre Festival 2023 and the Romanian National Theatres Meeting, Chisinau.

This year's edition of the Piatra Neamt Theatre Festival was entitled Safety Zone. The 34th edition proposed contemporary Romanian texts and performances that discuss relevant themes and burning issues for today's society.

SEASIDE STORIES, with its plethora of stories scattered throughout the summer, fit perfectly into this landscape of artistic events.

On 8 September, the show was performed at the opening of the Piatra Neamt Theatre Festival on the stage of the Piatra Neamt Youth Theatre. Immediately after the welcome applause, the cast met the audience for a discussion moderated by writer Daria Ancuța. "Midnight Conversation" surprised us in the most pleasant way with the interesting feedback and insights received directly from the audience.

Five days later, SEASIDE STORIES arrived in Chisinau. On 13 September, the show was performed on the stage of the National Theatre "Mihai Eminescu" within the framework of the Romanian National Theatres Meeting. The 8th edition, entitled "So close", brought together theatres from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with a special guest from Ukraine, and included, in addition to theatre performances, exhibitions of rare books and photography, conferences on theatre art, radio premieres and a programme of open-air performances. The festival is organized by the National Theatre "Mihai Eminescu" in Chisinau in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute through its representation in Chisinau, the Romanian Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the Swiss Cooperation Office in the Republic of Moldova, and for the third consecutive year, the Meeting of Romanian National Theatres in Chisinau enjoyed the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova and the Romanian Presidency. It should be mentioned that the Constanta State Theatre is the only theatre invited to Chisinau that does not have the title "national" in its name, but we hope that this omission will be remedied in the near future.

But SEASIDE STORIES is not the only show of the Constanta State Theatre invited to festivals. 8 FATHERS, for which director Irisz Kovacs was nominated for the UNITER Debut Award, is part of the programme of the International Theatre and Performing Arts Festival Brăila.

On 27 September, at 20:00, the show 8 FATHERS will be performed on the stage of the Studio Hall of the Theatre "Maria Filotti" Brăila within the International Theatre and Performing Arts Festival Brăila.

Already a tradition for the audience of Braila, the International Theatre and Performing Arts Festival Braila is back with a new edition that will include cultural events that promise to cover all cultural preferences of all categories of audience: performances by the Theatre "Maria Filotti" Braila, but also guest performances, conferences, book launches and exhibitions that will take place over nine days.

Autumn has just begun and we are still on the road. SEASIDE STORIES hasn't finished its journey yet. On 6 October, the show will have a performance at the International Theatre Festival for Young Audiences Iași 2023, organised by the "Luceafărul" Theatre Iași. In the same month, on 24 and 25 October, the show will also be performed at the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre in Bucharest, as part of the National Theatre Festival - the most important festival in Romania.

The Bucharest audience will have the opportunity to see on October 12 another production of the Constanta State Theatre, GAMES IN THE BACKYARD, directed by Diana Mititelu, who won the UNITER Award for Debut in 2021. The show, a festival veteran, will be part of the programme of the Excelsior International Festival of Young Theatre, X-FEST, organised by Excelsior Theatre Bucharest.

The show 8 TAȚI will have one more performance this autumn, on October 14, as part of the Festival "Young Theatre Week" Buzău, organized by the Theatre "George Ciprian" Buzău with the support of the Buzău County Council.
