Born in 1987, Alexandru Mâzgăreanu is among the best young directors of the Romanian theater. He graduated from National University of Theater and Cinematography „I.L. Caragiale”, Faculty of Theater, Directing Department, in the class of professor Tudor Mărăscu (2008), and the master, in the same specialization, in the class of professor Alexa Visarion (2011). For 2020 he was nominated for Best Direction at UNITER Awards Gala, for "The Star without a Name" by Mihail Sebastian, staged in Piatra - Neamţ Youth Theater. He also was nominated at UNITER Awards Gala in 2011, Debut section, for directing "The Officials" after A.P. Chekhov, production of Metropolis Theater Bucharest. He won the Award for Best Director at the "Comedy Is/Cares for Youngsters" Gala for "The Romantics" (2008). He was a finalist in the section "Performing Arts" - Prometheus Grand Prix 2009 - OPERA PRIMA. He has already directed in many important theaters in Romania, such as National Theater „I.L. Caragiale” Bucharest, Odeon Theater, Comedy Theater, Nottara Theater, Excelsior Theater Bucharest, ArCuB, Metropolis Theater, “Regina Maria”Theater from Oradea, Youth Theater from Piatra Neamț, or “Toma Caragiu” Theater Ploiești. Through the deep understanding of the texts, he succeeds to bring into contemporaneity the elements that allow it, he creatively exploits the points of intertextuality and takes his spectators to surprising areas and epochs, managing to remain faithful to the main objectives of the authors.
